Apple to open iOS App Development Center in Italy

Apple announced Thursday it is opening its first iOS App Development Center in Europe. The center will be located at a partner institution in Naples, Italy, offering a specialized curriculum for students interested in becoming developers for Apple’s mobile application development ecosystem.

Apple will also work with partners in other European countries to offer additional training an open up opportunities for students.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, Apple’s App Store has contributed to the creation of 1.4 million jobs in Europe.

“Europe is home to some of the most creative developers in the world and we’re thrilled to be helping the next generation of entrepreneurs in Italy get the skills they need for success,” Cook said in a statement.

According to Apple, more than 75,000 jobs have been opened in Italy thanks to the App Store, and developers in Europe have earned more than €10.2 billion ($11.11 billion) from selling their apps.

Apple did not give an exact timeline for opening the App Development Center, but it did say it expects to expand the program to other countries around the world.
